U-Pull-It Operations

U-Pull-It operations introduce a different risk profile, with customers actively entering yards, using tools, and removing parts themselves. IWA works with local agents to develop insurance solutions that reflect this hands-on environment, addressing liability alongside property and operational exposures unique to self-service facilities.

U-Pull-It Operational Requirements:
To be eligible for coverage, operations should demonstrate strong controls around customer safety and site management:

  • Controlled customer access with defined entry and exit procedures\
  • Signed liability waivers for all customers
  • Customer sign-in and sign-out protocols
  • Age restrictions enforced for unaccompanied minors
  • Clear separation between customer-access areas and restricted operational zones
  • Vehicles safely positioned and properly secured in the yard
  • Policies governing customer tools and equipment (including restrictions on unsafe equipment)
  • Procedures for checking toolboxes upon entry and exit
  • No or limited loaning or renting of tools to customers
  • Adequate fencing, lighting, and overall site security
  • Active monitoring of customer activity within the yard
  • Written safety procedures and employee training programs
  • Regular safety meetings and documented training practices
  • Proper fluid removal prior to customer exposure
  • Safe storage of flammable materials in approved containers
  • Compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements

Incidental / Secondary Operations (Eligible):
We recognize many recycling operations include related exposures and will consider:

  • Auto service and repair (mechanical or light collision)
  • Customer or incidental towing
  • Used auto sales
